I'd heard raving reviews of this place and finally had the chance to go last night. Perhaps if I'd gone with lower expectations, my impression would have differed. 1. Seating We'd booked seating for omakase, which was at the sushi counter. If you're sitting at the end by the wall or even the seats next to it, you don't have people walking behind you and can enjoy your meal in peace. We were however seated on the other side by the pathway, with customers and even servers constantly walking right behind us and bumping into the backs of our chairs. 2. Service The staff at the reception was friendly and welcoming. Our experience with the server was a bit odd--we ordered food and drinks, but at the end of our order, she asked if we'd like anything to drink. They also never came around to refill our water without our asking. 3. Omakase We both ordered the Sushi Omakase ($69+), which comes with: - Seasonal oyster - Spicy tuna cone - Chef's choice premium sushi (10 pieces) - Choice of 1 hand roll - Choice of 1 dessert For omakase in the city (& surrounds), this was very reasonably priced. We also ordered miso soup ($3+ each). The chef at the counter was not a sushi chef per se and also with the music, it was quite difficult to understand what each sushi and topping were--would've been nice to have a list. Overall, the quality of the fish was good--especially the uni, which just melted in my mouth. Some of the toppings were a bit overpowering, though, and not my favorite combination with quality sushi, like pesto or chili oil. The fish in the hand roll was also too cold, like it'd been frozen. As long as expectations are managed and you're able to sit at a table with less foot traffic, it could be a nice date spot or for dining with family and/or friends in Jersey City.
Very cute spot in a beautiful area very close to Hudson River. The food was amazing! The service was fast and friendly!
Peaceful and beautiful atmosphere. Exceptional food and service. It's been over a year since I've been, but I do recall having some of my best restaurant cooked steak here. Plus, the drinks were equally delicious.
Love this place! The service is always great and the atmosphere is enjoyable. They also offer a great lunch menu making it affordable as well. I am glad Jersey City has the gem!
I simply love it here. Reasons: 1. The food and drinks. Yes; individually and together - they are out of this world, obvi! 2. There are always familiar faces. I love places with little turnover. It says a lot! 3. The crowd is always mixed and calm. I love the view of commuters and folks walking their dogs to the water. It's a wonderful place.
LOVED this restaurant. The service was great - quick but not rushed. The cocktails & food are amazing. The tuna nigiri was some of the best I've had. The uni hand roll was also amazing, but next time I'll get more nigiri as that was by far the star of the show. The octopus, pork belly and black miso cod were all delicious! Would absolutely get the cod again.
The five handrolls for $35 is a great deal! If you get the handrolls outside of their initial list, they will only charge you the difference. Here are the five that I liked: * Shrimp tempura, mango salsa, and sweet soy glaze * Scallop, spicy mayo, yuzu, and tobiko * Blue crab, garlic aioli, and sauteed onion * Miso black cod, Kabocha puree, and pickled mustard seeds * Lobster and apple mayo For dessert, I had the black sesame panna cotta and it was good as well. Take-out is available, although the handrolls are not available for take-out. Service is fast, so you might as well sit down and enjoy the food.
Awesome sushi. DomoDomo had the best salmon sushi I have had. It was so flavorful and melted like butter. I got the sushi and handroll dinner. It started with a himachi in a mustard sauce. Very good. First time having mustard with sushi but it was delicious. Next came 9 piece assorted sushi. Everything was delicious but the salmon was my favorite. There was also amberjack, flounder, tuna, and many more. The toppings on each were really good. Ended with a yellowtail handroll and spicy salmon. Yellowtail was good but salmon stole the show. Spicy, melt in your mouth with a great crunch of potato chip. Great way to end the meal. Great location. Easy to get to in Jersey City. Good prices for sushi. If I am back in town again I will come back!
This trendy Japanese restaurant offers a beautiful and upscale casual dining experience at an affordable price. Be sure to make a reservation, as they're highly recommended. If you enjoy sushi, they have two sections at their sushi bar: one for omakase diners and one for general menu diners where you will have no view of chefs. The service is exceptionally attentive, and they offer indoor seating and currently an enclosed patio for winter or rainy days. They have a liquor license at this location. You can order sake, cocktails, wine, tea, or water (bottled or tap) with your meal. They have modern takes on traditional Japanese entrees as well as, rolls, nigiri rolls, and hand rolls. We ordered their Sushi & Hand roll Course and along with 10 premium hand rolls. All the hand rolls were excellent but some stood out more. My personal hand roll favorites included the scallop and the oyster mushroom. The nigiri omakase was the overall favorite and exceeded expectations. Parking is available across the street in the parking lot.
I'm long overdue for a review! But i love this place. We have been coming here for years and every time the food is spectacular. They never missed a beat. I even ordered To-go a few times and that was great. Food is 10/10 Bacon fried rice Sushi and handroll set Hand rolls Sushi Sake Udon! Everything is delicious
